Women are rocking the yoga mats

As International Women’s Day is around the corner, I thought it would be interesting to talk¬†about Yoga and how much it has changed over time. Because did you know that back in the day, yoga was mainly for men? Yup, it’s true! But now, it’s mostly women who are rocking the yoga mats. Let’s dive into why that’s happened.

Back in the Day

Yoga started in ancient India, and guys were the main ones doing it. It was all about finding inner peace and getting closer to a higher power. For ages, yoga stayed like that – just for guys.

Ladies Join In

But then, something changed. Women started getting into yoga, too. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, some brave women said, “Hey, we want to do yoga, too!” They pushed past the old rules and made space for themselves. Pioneering female practitioners such as Indra Devi and Krishnamacharya’s wife, Namagiriamma, challenged the status quo and paved the way for future generations of women to follow.

Yoga Today

Fast forward to now, and yoga looks totally different. It’s not just for guys anymore – in fact, most people doing yoga today are women. Why? Well, because yoga speaks to things that matter to women, like taking care of themselves and feeling strong inside and out.

Yoga gives women a chance to unwind, feel good in their bodies, and find balance in their busy lives. It’s like a little oasis where they can take a breath and just be themselves.
