Finding Unity Through ‘Europapa’

Are you glued to the TV on Saturday? I remember well when I was a little child, allowed to stay up late to watch all the songs from all the countries. I loved it. But as I grew older, it started to seem like a strange puppet show to me. Weird songs and outfits…

But after the Netherlands had some beautiful entries, and Duncan Laurence even won in 2019, I find it enjoyable to watch again. Especially since this year’s broadcast is from Malmö and the Dutch entry is sky-high favorite. Our children can sing along to Joost Klein’s song “Europapa” by heart. And I must admit: I love the song as well. And here’s why…

Embracing Unity Through Music

Eurovision Song Contest is all about music, celebration, and, most importantly, unity. And I think that Joost Klein has captivated that in a catchy way with his song. ‘Europapa’ resonates with the essence of togetherness. His lyrics, “Europe, let’s come together, it’s now or never,” echo the universal longing for connection, a feeling we can all relate to in our increasingly fragmented world.

Yoga’s Message of Connection

It might seem a bit cliché to draw the link to yoga, but I’m doing it anyway! As you know, yoga is about connection. Not just with yourself, but with everyone and everything.

In yoga philosophy, the concept of “Sangha” refers to a community bound together by a common purpose or practice. In the same spirit, Eurovision brings together people from across Europe and beyond, united by their love for music and celebration. And Joost Klein is really making an effort here, to unite and celebrate through music. The world is on fire and the only way to make it better is to spread love and kindness.

Cultivating Connection Through Yoga

In our yoga practice, we can cultivate this sense of connection by extending kindness and compassion to ourselves and others, recognizing that we are all part of the same human family. Just as Joost Klein sings about traveling through Europe, without borders, let us start a journey of self-discovery and connection, overcoming borders and barriers.

Closing Thoughts

Tonight Joost Klein will shine on stage in the half finals. It’s pretty sure that he will get to the finals on Saturday. And as we enjoy the show and all the performances, let us also take a moment to reflect on the deeper message it carries: the power of music to unite, inspire, and uplift us all. Enjoy the show!
